Most of my ever growing set of hand tools is American really can't beat the quality and durability. I inherited an all-American car that I can't say really fits me, but I laugh in my German/Swedish car-owning friends faces come maintenance time.

Why don't we just give our full paycheck to the government each week. With all these stupid taxes, we're pretty much already doing this.

maybe if target dropped their pricing they wouldnt have this problem
As ITR 81 already mentioned, they are already often selling at below their cost to attract customers. They don't have any room to go lower unless the studios drop their prices.

How much does a job like this pay? Looks like Microsoft has a Data Center Manager position open. Maybe I'll apply. How hard can it be?

Just the fact that you asked the question means you're not qualified. Does that clear it up for you?

Are you saying you're happy it costs $99? You don't want to pay less, no? The more complaining and bad feedback we give Apple that this service is simply too expensive the better, and the better chance we have they will begin to pay attention to loads ( of posts/blogs/and stories on this. I feel sick when I have to tell someone how much it costs. I mean they say .Mac syncing is included! You have to pay to sync computers that you payed money for, and worse still you have to give it to the company you bought the computers from?? Give me a break! GMail is free too. iWeb provides little bandwidth, and the whole this is wrapped-up with a tiny storage package. And I don't think the solution is for Apple to give us more storage. I would prefer a cheaper price to more storage any-day. If you want moe storage then you pay $99, otherwise this should cost no more than $49 per year. At the VERY MOST!!

Well, now Apple's onto your little scheme and they'll NEVER charge less!

Seriously, though, I doubt Apple cares what people are saying on the MacRumors forum. I'd of course like them to up the storage too, and what I really want is a spam filter in the webmail. It's why I never check my .mac account anymore. Way too much spam.

The channels that do not participate are just inching that much more toward obscurity.

Just recently we cancelled the cable subscription (still have KylinTV IPTV) for lack of use. Only one TV show was watched per week, and that can be purchased on iTunes in a superior format to what we got via cable, for a fraction of the cost of cable.

If my provider had an app like this, we would have stayed subscribed. Its arcane to sit down in front of a screen at a predetermined time to watch programming, it really is.

Considering the Mini got bumped lately do you reckon that's very likely?

I'm sure Apple will progress the Mini to C2D when they Macbook is updated. The Mini only received a minor speed bump the last time around and I bet it had more to do with keeping consistant pricing than it did with updating a product.

Yes, just what Apple needs -- data center managers from the company responsible for the T-Mobile/Sidekick disaster.

How will War on Terror Change after "Osama Bin Laden" can't be used

Unfortunately, I doubt it will change anything regarding our domestic panicking or foreign military intrusions. It's not like Obama injected the name of Osama Bin Laden to justify sending drones into Libya a couple of weeks ago. The death of the dollar/US economy, not the death of Bin Laden, will end our ongoing wars, whether those wars be abstract wars "on terror," or actual, needless invasions halfway around the world.

I wonder why the 2 plans have to be mutually exclusive. Why not download the whole database when you get it, for when you might not get coverage. And then automatically update when you do have coverage. When going somewhere, give priority updating to the current route and then download everything else. Maybe allow current route to be updated with EDGE/3G while whole database updates require Wi-Fi. Just my 2

Tom Tom is moving towards this... the latest version allows users to submit map update info, and then allows other users to download that info. I'm not sure what it includes because I haven't played with it, but I have noticed it downloading the updates for me every couple of weeks (over 3G, not wifi). It asks when you start up if you want to download the updates.

    Purchased: Aug '07
    Model No: A1186
    EMC No: 2138
    Mac Pro/3.0_8CX/4x1/2x7300GT/500/2xSD/AP/BT

    Logic board:
    Part number: 630-7951
    Serial Number: J5*****X7QB

Added: 8gb Kingston memory (total 12gb)
    Added: 3x1tb drives (total 3.5tb)

Couple weeks back, system blinked off. The machines powers on, but there's no chime and the system doesn't boot at all. Done the SMC reset, reseated RAM, drives, video cards etc. Suspected the logic board.

Troubleshooting (from Frys, Apple authorized) confirms it's the logic board.

Now, going through the process of pulling the old board to trade in for a replacement "X7Q" board. Probably this one:

I got the machine disassembled but I am unable to remove the heat sinks/CPUs. The 4 captive screws loosen, even took them all the way out of the machine, but the sinks seem to be stuck. It doesn't just lift out as most of the online info I've found indicates that it should.

Unsure of how hard to pull on this thing. It wobbles very slightly, but feels firmly stuck on...enough that the board will flex if I pull it any harder.

More reading makes me think it might be the thermal paste is just really sticking? This is really stuck though...almost as though there's another screw I can't see. I thought if I pulled hard enough the CPU might come out along with the sink.

Also I ran across an article (after the fact) that states the order of screw removal from the heat sinks needs to be in a specific crossing pattern. Can't imagine how that matters.

Of course, I paid through the nose for this machine back in late '07. Bought Apple Care even. All long since that I need it. Getting desperate. This machine is a workhorse and I see no value in replacing it if I can fix it for 700 to 800 bucks.

    Any one have ideas?

While I obviously think this prediction is just a load of crap, I would NOT mind a larger screen on the iPhone. Not too big to comfortably carry in a pocket or hold up to my ear. A 4.5" would be nice, I think. Definitely not a nano-sized phone.

    i support THIS!

This is a great widget, and itself justifies the upgrade to Tiger! BTW, I believe you can update any widget by selecting it, and then hitting command-R (just FYI for the summary in the first post).

The president and CEO of Eneco, a "development stage company" that claims to have developed a small chip that can convert heat into electricity, claims that he is in talks with both Apple and Dell regarding his company's technology.

First reported on an IT Week blog "Green Business News" (, Eneco claims that their chips can produce electricity from heat at up to 30% efficiency.

The company says it is already in talks with both Dell and Apple about how the chips could be used in their devices. Initial talks have focused on integrating the heat conversion chips into the device so it can harness the heat generated by processors and turn it into electricity to power fans or other cooling technologies. By harnessing this power the devices, be they initially laptops and handhelds, or later even servers and PCs, should see improved energy efficiency, extended battery life and enhanced performance.

There are issues with the chip, as are to be expected from a development-stage product based on a new technology. At the present time, Eneco hopes to begin production late next year or early 2008.

The phrase Podcast didn't exist until the development of Apple's iPod so I don't see why they shouldn't own the rights to it or at least have some level of control for it's use.
