When Abhishek Bachchan felt he was going to die

Jumping off a 90-ft cliff into water is no kid’s job. You need professional stuntman to take the plunge. Abhishek Bachchan himself might have given the stunt for Raavan a miss until he saw local kids in Hogenakkal do it for money. That’s when Abhishek decided to shoot the stunt himself, despite opposition from the film’s director Mani Ratnam.

“I did the dive myself. When we went to the location in Tamil Nadu, insurance officials told Mani that the life of the lead actor cannot be risked...Then he opposed it and said no. Mani advised me that the current of the river was intense and there is a rock in the bottom, which could hurt me,” Abhishek told a news agency.

However, Abhishek made up his mind when he saw kids doing it.

“We shot in Hogenakkal in Tamil Nadu where small local kids jump for money. When a five-year-old kid jumped, I asked, ‘if a child can, why can't I’. But while completing the jump, I actually had the time to think, ‘Oh my God, I am going to die!’” Abhishek said while recalling the stunt which can be seen in the film’s first teaser.

The actor describes his role in ‘Raavan’ as the most “physically and emotionally” draining.

Salman had confidence in me: Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif’s rise from anonymity to fame is often dubbed as a fairytale come true. For a girl who couldn’t even speak proper Hindi when she stepped into Bollywood, reaching the top league has been a journey marked with lots of hard work, luck, and support from colleagues, particularly her boyfriend Salman Khan who never lost confidence in her.

“Apart from guiding me, Salman had confidence in me. He is not the person to say that because he is friendly with you. He will say it genuinely,” Katrina is quoted as saying by a news agency.

Not just Salman, Katrina said she’s indebted to Akshay Kumar as well.

“There are too many people whom I can call my godfather. I am grateful and indebted to them. Even Akshay Kumar took a risk in working with me initially,” she said.

Katrina’s career took a turnaround for good when her films with Akshay went on to become back-to-back hits. However, when she had signed Namastey London (the duo’s first hit together) with him he was on the verge of becoming s superstar but she was still struggling.

“He did not know me at all. He was at crossroads of his career. When he did Namastey London, people thought he had gone insane. Nobody is going to damage or destroy himself to help somebody else. Salman and Akshay believed in me and that is my good fortune and destiny,” she said.

Katrina is now looking forward to the release of director Prakash Jha’s film Raajneeti in which she plays a woman who enters politics after the death of her husband.

Gerard Butler Is Not One of Priyanka's 'Husband'

Scottish actor Gerard Butler is not playing one of Priyanka Chopra's seven husbands in Vishal Bharadwaj's "Saat Khoon Maaf", the National Award winning actress clarified through her Twitter page.

"Guys just to clarify things... Gerard Butler is not in 'Saat Khoon Maaf'. I don't know where these fictional stories come out as news," Priyanka posted Wednesday.

A Mumbai tabloid had recently published that the actress had used her personal rapport with Butler to rope him in for the project. And she is quite miffed.

"I'm almost scared to Tweet anything now cause of journos and their overactive imaginations who make up stories by just presuming my mindframe," she added.

"Saat Khoon Maaf" is based on Ruskin Bond's story "Susanna's Seven Husbands", about a femme fatale who bumps off her seven spouses. It also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Irrfan Khan.

Denied travel, Item Girl Katrina Tuns Tapori In Private

Katrina Kaif’s hunger to excel and eradicate the reputation of being a firangi memsahib has reached an all-time obsessive level now, specially with Raajneeti where she wants to polish up her act to a glistening perfection.

Director Prakash Jha got the shock of his life when on Saturday morning, Katrina who was supposed to be in London for her grand-father’s 90th birthday called him to say she wanted to re-dub her lines in Raajneeti.

Says Prakash, “I thought she was calling from London. I laughed and told her to relax and enjoy her family gathering and stop thinking about work. But then she told me couldn’t go home to London because all the flights to Europe was cancelled. Instead of wasting her time crying over missing the function Katrina chose to re-dub her lines for my film.”

Perfectionist that he is, Prakash had made Katrina work as hard as possible on the lines. “There was nothing more to do with the lines, as far as I could see. But Katrina was convinced she could still improve her dialogues. Her logic was, if she suddenly had extra time why should she waste it sleeping or partying ? She’d rather work.”

Katrina reached the dubbing studio on Saturday went through her lines and re-dubbed the lines that she thought still needed improvement.

On Sunday evening she was practising her dance steps for a show and said she had not stopped sulking about her inability to be in London for a family function.

Says Katrrina, “I was very very angry and upset about missing the function. I tried and tried to find a way to reach London. But when everything failed I had two choices.

I could either mope and sulk. Or use that time to do something that would finally make me feel less bad about not being with my family. So yeah, I chose to improve my lines.”

Adds Jha, “I’ve worked with a lot of very focussed actors. But I’ve never seen such an obsession to prove a point. Katrina has been working on her lines like crazy. I though she had already got it perfect in pitch and tone. Katrina thought otherwise. She decided she wanted to get it even better.”

Now for Tees Maar Khan where Katrina plays an item girl Katrina is working on getting the Maumbaiyya slang and drawl into place.

But only in private. In public Katrina doesn’t like to experiment with her language. She feels too selfconscious and thinks her friends would find her effort show-offy.

Jolie no longer attracted to Pitt?

Angelina Jolie is apparently not happy with partner Brad Pitt these days.

The National Enquirer reports that the actress hates Pitt’s shabby look.

She is said to be urging the actor to get rid of his ridiculous beard hiding his bad looks and have a facelift.

“Angie told Brad he looked like a total wreck and needed to do something radical before she found him attractive again,” The Daily Telegraph quoted a source as saying.

“The sad truth is Brad looks like a pale shadow of his former self. His skin is in terrible condition and he’s grown this ridiculous beard to try and cover-up how bad he looks underneath.

“Angie has tried to be understanding and at first didn’t want to saying anything, fearing she could hurt his feelings.

“But with each passing week, she’s told pals, she was finding him less and less attractive. It’s finally got to the point where she was seeing him as a brother or friend than as a sexual partner.

“When Brad finally called Angie out about her lack of desire to jump in the sack with him, it led to an horrific argument. She told him he just isn’t the same handsome man she fell in love with and needed to do something to sort himself out.

“Brad couldn’t believe what she was saying, but once he calmed down he vowed to take action. He said he will have a facelift if that is what it takes to revive their relationship," the source added.

Kim Kardashian regrets Playboy Pose

Reality star Kim Kardashian admits posing for Playboy was not a comfortable experience and she is "sorry" she did it.

Kardashian says she regrets baring all for the publication in December 2007, but was urged to do so by mother Kris Jenner to promote their "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" TV programme.

"I'm sorry I did Playboy. I was uncomfortable," contactmusic.com quoted her as saying.

"'Go for it,' my mother said, 'They might never ask you again. Our show isn't on the air yet. No one knows who you are. Do it and you'll have these beautiful pictures to look at when you're my age'."

However, posing in another naked shoot for Harper's Bazaar, the 29-year-old beauty admits she feels more comfortable this time around.

"It's definitely scary, but it's very liberating. I think the message is embrace your curves and who you are. I feel proud if young girls look up to me and say, 'I'm curvy and proud of it now," she added.

Katrina & Bipasha To Hot Up IPL Finale - 2010

Hrithik Roshan may have bowed out because of his knee problem but Bollywood beauties Katrina Kaif, Bipasha Basu and Priyanka Chopra have reportedly stepped in to hot up the grand finale of the third season of IPL.

The three actresses will dance to hit songs from their films on the night the IPL T20 trophy is handed out to the winning team. Like last year when Katrina shook her leg with singer Akon in South Africa, this year too she’s set to glam up the event.

Adding more razzmatazz will be Shahrukh Khan and Shilpa Shetty, the co-owners of Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals, who’ll be hosting the IPL awards.

Indian musician A R Rahman will rev up the evening with his soulful and perky compositions. Pop band Sugababes will tie up with the Oscar composer and belt out their hit numbers.

All in all, it would be an evening to remember.

Dunya News Apple CEO Steve Jobs Showed Off IAD Platform

11 April 2010 Apple CEO Steve Jobs showed off a new smartphone operating system that features an advertising platform

to compete with Google’s, and revealed stronger-than-expected sales of 450,000 units for the iPad.

The iPhone 4.0 software will be available on Apple’s hugely popular smartphone this summer, complete with a number of upgrades, including a long-awaited multi-tasking capability that allows the use of several applications at once.
A version of the iPhone’s operating system is also used on the iPad, and the latest generation of software will come to Apple’s new tablet computer this fall.
The new advertising platform for the iPhone and iPad—dubbed iAd—marks Apple’s first foray into a small but growing market, and is sure to please the thousands of application developers who make their living off those devices, providing them with a new revenue stream.

The iPad’s early sales impressed analysts, many of whom expect 1 million units to be sold in the quarter ending June, and roughly 5 million in 2010, though estimates vary widely.
“We’re making them as fast as we can. Our ramp is going well, but evidently we can’t quite make enough of them yet so we’re going to have to try harder,” Jobs said, noting iPad sellouts at Best Buy stores.
The electronics giant has staked its reputation on the 9.7-inch touchscreen tablet, essentially a cross between a smartphone and a laptop.

It is helping foster a market for tablet computers that is expected to grow to as many as 50 million units by 2014, according to analysts.
“I think it’s pretty impressive, five days almost half a million units, and it shows there’s still pretty good momentum behind the first day,” said Gartner analyst Van Baker.
Despite critics who question whether a true need exists for such a gadget, analysts expect Hewlett-Packard, Dell and others to trot out their own competing devices this year.
Since the iPad went on sale on April 3, users have downloaded 600,000 digital books and 3.5 million applications for the device, Jobs said. There are already 3,500 apps available for the iPad.

“It was above my expectations, frankly,” said Joe Clark, managing partner of Financial Enhancement Group, referring to iPad sales. “The day the original Apps Store launched it was a game change for the iPhone and it will do the same eventually for the iPad.”
At a media event at the company’s Cupertino, California, headquarters, Jobs said Apple had so far sold more than 50 million iPhones, the smartphone that competes with Research in Motion’s Blackberry and Motorola’s Droid.
That implies that the company sold 7 million or more devices in the March quarter, which would be above many analysts’ forecasts.
Mobile Ad War
Apple is expected to launch the fourth-generation model of its iPhone, which was introduced in 2007, later this year.
Pancreatic cancer survivor Jobs, looking thin but energetic, introduced the iAd mobile platform, which he said had the opportunity to make 1 billion ad impressions a day on tens of millions of Apple mobile device users.
IAds will allow applications developers to use advertisements in their apps, pocketing 60 percent of the revenue.

Apple will sell and host the ads.
Jobs harshly criticized the current manner and look of mobile advertising, particularly search ads. He promised that iAds will foster more engaging advertising that will not pull users away from the content within apps.
New Arena
Tim Bajarin, president of consulting company Creative Strategies, said it was a dramatic shift in thinking about the delivery of mobile ads, and an obvious move by Apple to set itself apart from Google Inc, which made its name on search ads.
“It’s very clear that Jobs believes that ads in the context of apps makes more sense than generic mobile search,” he said.
Apple’s entry into the mobile ad arena had been widely expected. This year, it paid $270 million for Quattro Wireless, an advertising network that spans both mobile websites and smartphone applications.
Google, which already sells advertising on smartphones, agreed to buy mobile ad firm AdMob late in 2009.

U.S. regulators are examining the deal’s antitrust implications.
Jobs said Apple was also in the hunt to buy AdMob before Google “snatched them from us because they didn’t want us to have them.” The comments were just the latest hint at the rift that has emerged between Apple and Google, which were once allies but now compete in a number of arenas.
Research group Gartner expects the mobile advertising market to expand by 78 percent to $1.6 billion in 2010.

Jobs also said the new operating system will include support for multi-tasking—addressing a perennial consumer complaint—allowing users to switch between several programs running simultaneously.
Shares of Apple turned positive briefly after Jobs’ announcement, before quickly dipping back into negative territory. They closed 0.3 percent lower at $239.94 on the Nasdaq.
