The resale value of the purchased media drops to $0 the moment I buy it.
I generally agree with your thesis, restricted downloads should be a lot cheaper than new DVDs.
However, I believe that, for the most part, the market for used DVDs has dried up. I was doing pretty well buying movies and reselling them after I watched them (sort of Netflix w/o the subscription or deadlines) but now many of the movies I want to get rid of are often available for $2 + s/h on Amazon. So the only DVDs that sell for a decent price are rare or almost new movies...
Plenty of new DVDs of older movies for $10 or less at your local Target or Wally World.

After numerous accusations from all over the world of Facebook violating private privacy rights they now do this...
Yep, I really thing that Facebook is going to go down with all this crap they are doing.
Microsoft's rep = crashing and copying Mac
Facebook's rep = lack of privacy and opt out NOT opt in

Who rates this negative?
Unless I misread the report, basically all Target did was remind the studios that the DVD format is in jeopardy and they better get with the times or Target will. And if studios need Target and Wal-Mart to tell them that, they're in more trouble than I ever thought.
My understanding was different. I take it that they are taking the same stance that Wal-Mart is, and that is that if the movie industry allows iTunes to sell movies, they will make the record companies pay for it (in a negative way). The retailers aren't ready to take on iTunes and the online market, so they are going to use their power to stall the transition to digital downloads as long as they possibly can.
What Target is doing is anti Apple, and more importantly, anti the progression of technology and lifestyle.

Amen! Why not just release it Universal and check the other box when compiling?
Likely they are not using Xcode. If you have to maintain code that is Windows/Mac cross platform they may find it easier not to use Xcode.

Yep. It's simply an attempt to buy some time. They know they can't fight it in the end.

I can't help but think that along with Steve's various email responses to customers, that Steve is morphing. Into what exactly, I'm not sure, but he seems to be more interested in responding to people. Maybe that new liver has something to do with it? At any rate, it's a very calculated move. Nothing he does is without a goal in mind.
Maybe Steve realizes that Apple isn't everything. Yea, people say he was bhuddist, but then people say they're christian and they aren't really.

How much does a job like this pay? Looks like Microsoft has a Data Center Manager position open. Maybe I'll apply. How hard can it be?
Just the fact that you asked the question means you're not qualified. Does that clear it up for you?

Since the iPad data payment can't be tied to a pre-existing AT&T or Verizon cell phone plan, I just don't see much advantage to getting a Verizon iPad unless you live in an area without AT&T service. Thoughts?
Not true. I just added a fifth iPad to an AT&T Wireless Postpaid account, and I fully expect to add more (on that's on order right now, probably more to come).
SOOOOOO much easier than dealing with the prepaid nonsense, with individual usernames, passwords, and credit cards required for every two iPads.

I have a Verizon iPhone, and I had it happen. At midnight last night, my phone rolled back to 11pm. I went in to change it manually, and turning off DST corrected it. I left DST and rebooted my phone, and its worked perfectly since. It stayed at midnight then, and this morning, it has successfully rolled forward.
So yes, there is a bug, but a reboot fixed it for me.

If you don't want to do it though, just don't use it. Simple as that. Always has been, always will.
"Don't want to do it? Then don't do it."but I have to! If I don't then who is going to complain and whine about it?

I can see different form factors. Apple at some point does have to up the ante as no other phone maker uses their "one size fits all" approach. If say they dared to offer a model with a physical keyboard that may facilitate a reason for different screen sizes. Though I still kind of take the stance that the physical keyboard is the two button mouse issue all over again. I'd love a physical keyboard though! My thumbs always hit the space key, the n, the erase key...
But if Apple really wants to compete with Android's adoption, having a few other devices to appeal to more users would be smart. But not holding my breath.

Does nobody realise that you have to support the exFAT format (from Microsoft, currently NOT supported on OS X, and has to be licensed by Microsoft) to be able to use more than 32 GB?
huh?

8 Exbibytes (2^60)
anyway, Kryder's Law applied to storage for the rest of the thread:
64GB June 2010
128GB June 2011
256 GB June 2012
512GB June 2013
1TB June 2014
2TB June 2015

but given the growth surrounding this technology I'm expecting closer to mid-2013 until we see 2TB SDXC.

USB sticks are too expensive and take too much time to duplicate "en masse". DVDs are very cheaper and take few seconds to duplicate if even that since they are being pressed (not burned in the case of mass duplication). USB sticks are also more expensive.
It doesn't make sense to go to a USB only distribution model, at least from a cost basis. As for Mac App Store... meh... why not do downloads outside of the Mac App Store, I don't want to use that POS. I've been installing OSes from HTTP and FTP since the mid-90s, no need for a "Mac App Store" to do it. What happens if I don't have a 10.6 or 10.7 installation going and just want to wipe the computer ? Linux has been doing network installs from nothing. Upon purchase, just provide a USB thumb-drive image I can put on any 1 GB thumb-drive to boot into the installer where I put in my purchase code or something. No need for the "Mac App Store".
